“Big Daddy” Don Garlits inspects the construction of his new 2011 Mopar Challenger V-10 Drag Pak.
“Big Daddy” Don Garlits visited his new 2011 Mopar Challenger V-10 Drag Pak at the production facility near Detroit on Monday morning Aug. 22, 2011. Body prep and roll cage installation was complete and the car was scheduled for paint (“Swamp Rat” Black) beginning that afternoon. Final assembly commenced on Monday, Aug. 29 and was to be complete by the end of the week. Big Daddy planned to take delivery of the car in September. “I was impressed with the quality of workmanship and enjoyed the visit immensely,” he said.
Later, Garlits ran his 2009 Dodge Challenger Drag Pak at the World Series of Drag Racing in Cordova, Ill., Aug. 25–28 and then qualified the car in Stock Eliminator in the NHRA U.S. Nationals at O’Reilly Raceway Park, Indianapolis, Ind., on Labor Day weekend. He said he has now retired the 2009 Drag Pak to his Museum of Drag Racing in Ocala, Fla., and he will switch to the 2011 V-10 Drag Pak for next season.
