Mopar® HEMI® Challenge Race Series Will Invade Three Tracks in 2010

Mopar®, Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand, announced a three-event schedule for the 2010 Mopar HEMI® Challenge Race Series. The popular racing series made its 2010 debut at the Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion (NHRR) at Beech Bend Park in Bowling Green, Ky., June 18–20.

Following the NHRR event, the Mopar HEMI Challenge Race Series will head to the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, Ind., Sept. 1–6, and then wrap up at the JEGS Northern SPORTSnationals at National Trail Raceway outside of Columbus, Ohio, Sept. 24–26.

The winners of the Hot Rod Reunion and SPORTSnationals events will haul in $5,000 paydays. The U.S. Nationals victor will take home a $10,000 winner’s purse. Each event is a stand-alone HEMI Challenge event.

An impressive company of Super Stock/A-HEMI (SS/AH) pilots are scheduled to compete in the series, including 2009 U.S. Nationals winner Charlie Westcott Sr. and 2008 HEMI Challenge series champion Charlie Westcott Jr., driving their four-speed Plymouth Barracudas. Other top drivers who will compete in the series include two-time 2009 HEMI Challenge winner Jim Daniels, Gary Wolkwitz, Bob Buntin, Jeff Kobylski, Chuck Comella, Don Bales, Jim Pancake, Bucky Hess, Joe Teuton Jr. and Darrell Marvel. Pancake, Teuton and Marvel are Chrysler dealers.

“The Mopar HEMI Challenge is for the weekend drag racers who are the core of the series,” said Pietro Gorlier, President & CEO, Mopar Service, Parts & Customer Care, Chrysler Group LLC. “These dedicated racers who compete in the Mopar HEMI Challenge buy Mopar parts from Chrysler, Jeep®, Dodge or Ram dealerships and pour money, time and sweat into their Mopar HEMI-powered race cars. They are great examples of the passion for the Mopar brand that exists in the drag-racing community.”
