We are saddened to report that renowned Mopar drag car expert Dick Towers succumbed to a lengthy battle with cancer on October 23, 2009. Towers, whose long-time knowledge of Mopar was truly second-to-none, is survived by his wife Shirley and son Richard. Among many achievements in the Mopar hobby Towers teamed with Mike Guffey to organize the first HEMI race car reunions at Carlisle, Pa., in the early 1990s. Last year Towers and Jim Kramer put on the All HEMI Reunion at Quaker City Raceway in Salem, Ohio. It was the largest gathering of 426 HEMI race cars in history, with 230 vehicles.
His son Richard intends to continue his father’s drag racing photo archive, www.match-race-madness.com, and also hopes to complete the legacy work on Dick’s HEMI vehicle collection. –Geoff Stunkard.
