Reader Rides

Editor’s Note: As you know, our Reader Rides section always features just that: reader rides. But, variety is the spice of life as they say. When we heard from Stephen Cancila, Vice President of Marty Cancila Dodge Chrysler Jeep® in Florissant, Mo., we thought it would be interesting to share his story of a company that actually produces custom rides. Great story. Great cars.

Full Throttle

My father first started with Chrysler back in 1974 with our Dodge franchise. In 2006 we built the first Alpha dealership in St. Louis. It has a 27-car showroom, a café, video arcade, retail shopping area and much more. As you see, I basically grew up Mopar. My first car was a 1973 Dodge Challenger with a 340 cid 4-barrel. It had the hood scoop, slap stick transmission, and the distinctive four rectangular exhaust pipes (I truly miss that car).

Over the years as we’ve grown our business I have increasingly been drawn to custom cars. The launch of the Charger and 300 allowed us the opportunity to bust into the custom market. Full Throttle Productions is our Custom Automotive Entertainment Company. It’s a separate LLC from our dealership. When the team at Full Throttle builds a custom vehicle, our first priority is that the vehicle must be factory quality, period! This has allowed us great success at custom auto shows that we’ve attended, and with DUB magazine and the Mopar Accessories group. As you can see from the attached pictures, we build extreme high-end vehicles along with entry custom models. At the dealership level, we always have at least four or five custom models available for purchase.

We would be honored to have the opportunity to be in your fine magazine.

Members of the Family

Here’s a shot of our “Mopar Members of the Family.” The 1971 Challenger R/T is a 440 Six Pack with 550 horsepower (engine dyno), and the 1970 Barracuda has a custom-built HEMI® with 640 horsepower (again engine dyno). My wife drives the HEMI to car shows, as she says she is the only one with the appropriate purple clothes to match. Living in the heat of Las Vegas makes driving on 110+ degree days a little difficult, but neither car is a trailer queen. Our three kids are all over 30, so the cars are in the wills for the two oldest (boys). My daughter says we need a third car, so she will be taken care of.

Up next: a 1964 or 1965 B-Body post car with a Max Wedge. Love the magazine.

Mopar® Through and Through

We are a Mopar® family through and through. Currently I own a 1972 Challenger. My son (now 20) sent a letter about the car to the Overhaulin TV show and I was picked to be overhauled. My son drives a 1972 Plymouth Barracuda. We would very much like a shot at being in an upcoming issue of Reader Rides. I also used to own another famous Mopar: The Black Beauty from the TV show The Green Hornet. That car now resides in the Peterson Museum in Los Angeles.

Love the Magnums

I just ran across your magazine and I think you’re going to like these pictures I’m sending you. I purchased a new Magnum R/T in 2005 and took it to a “Pimp My Ride” shop where I spent as much on modifications as I did to purchase the vehicle. After about two years, I got a little bored with it and picked up a Magnum SRT8.® Look what I did to this one! I love the Magnums, but they have to be different.
