North Oakland Mopar Muscle Club
Each year the Autorama rolls into Motown in March, bringing some of the world’s finest customized and modified cars to Detroit, just as Detroiters are ready to throw off the winter doldrums. And each year, the count of customized “Mopars” at the show seems to multiply!
J.F. Launier’s 1955 Chrysler Wagon was one of eight customized beauties up for the famed Ridler Award, given to the best vehicle shown for the first time at the Autorama. Modifications included a HEMI® engine and Chip Foose wheels, just to name a (very) few of the vehicle’s many distinctive features.
Mopar® car clubs occupied choice real estate on the Autorama show floor. The Michigan Mopar Muscle Club and the North Oakland Mopar Muscle Club brought impressive coteries of classic Mopar gems to the show, which in turn lured in many praiseful Autorama attendees. One unique vehicle was North Oakland Mopar Muscle Club member Gary Hembree’s 1966 Dodge Charger, which boasted a customized interior based on the University of Michigan’s maize-and-blue school colors and custom seats with the Michigan “Block M.”
Mopar’s Autorama display, a popular attraction each year, included the Mopar Image Center and a collection of incomparable display cars. Mopar’s influence was on view throughout the Autorama. The DUB trailer featured a lineup of tricked out Chrysler vehicles, including a Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300C, and an eye-popping, blinged-out Pepsi “Street Motion” Dodge Nitro.
