Charging Ahead

Thought we would pass along a photo of one of our local law enforcement agency’s new Dodge Charger police cars. Several of my friends are on the force and showed up at our dealership for a couple of photos. They have nothing but good reviews on their new Charger. The University of Buffalo Police took a first-place prize in the 2007 International Police Vehicle Design contest, sponsored by Law & Order magazine. That says a lot for the design and the car behind it. Just keep an eye in your rearview mirror.

Thanks for the photos, Jim, and for passing along news about the good reviews. More and more Dodge Chargers are turning up for police duty, particularly in southeast Michigan, where Chrysler LLC is headquartered. One local agency has a black Charger with blacked out windows and no exterior markings or lights evident at a quick glance. That all changes, however, when your world lights up red and blue.—Ed.

Ram This

Check out the new addition here at KSR Motorsports. It’s called the Mopar 1 Dodge Ram. It’s an ’04 stock truck with modified suspension and axles. This Dodge works every weekend giving rides to help raise money for the kids at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. We hope you like it. The thousands of people who rode in did!

Thanks, guys, for a peek at this awesome looking truck—and for helping out the kids at St. Jude’s. Located in Memphis, St. Jude’s is one of the world’s foremost pediatric research hospitals. And because all patients are accepted at St. Jude’s regardless of their ability to pay, you’re helping provide critical medical services to kids big and small. Well done!—Ed.

Reunited

I just had my 1970 Dodge Challenger (340 4-speed) restored by Hodge Restorations in Inman South Carolina. Soon after I purchased the car, I hired a private investigator to find the original owner. To make a long story short, I was able to find the original owner and invited him and his wife to my home to be reunited and have a day with the car.

Great idea. I’m sure the owner was thrilled to see his old car, especially freshly restored. By the way, a 1970 Dodge Challenger figures prominently in a new movie just out in theaters last month. “Bucket List,” starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, follows two terminally ill men who escape from a cancer ward and take off on a road trip with a list of to-dos to accomplish before they kick the bucket.—Ed.

Dad’s Dodge

I wanted to forward to you and all your readers a story of a Dodge legacy my father, Warren Perry, has left to my family. My father became employed at Chrysler Corporation before World War II and except for a stint in the Air Force, remained a loyal employee until his retirement in 1978. As a kid growing up in the Detroit area in the 1950s, and 1960s I was around a lot of classic Dodge models. My family has driven Chrysler products forever, and Dodge is obviously our first choice. As you can see from the picture, all of the Perry men drive Rams—a fact that made my father proud. Also, just as it was the case when I was a “youngster,” it is still the rule that only the dad gets the HEMI! My sons are pictured with me: Ross (1998), Evan (1998) and Collin (2002). Our neighbors get a kick out of our driveway when we all get together. Thanks to Dodge for vehicles that we can continue to depend on, and thanks to Dad whose legacy continues through all of us.

What a great story, Steve. We hear from a lot of readers who are loyal to Chrysler products and have owned many over the years, but you, quite possibly, are the first family we’ve heard from with four Rams!—Ed.

Soaring with the Angels

Hey, guys. I just wanted to send in a picture of my car to see if it’s magazine worthy. I was at the United Airlines Car Show in San Francisco last October and we got to take professional pictures with the Blue Angels.

Looks worthy to us. Great-looking car, Chris. And, as always, the Blue Angels are mighty impressive looking machines.—Ed.
